Matt Allington at Excelerator BI put this webinar together. @Long Vu @David Osborn, Nathan Thompson, and others who work with financial statement analysis might find this video interesting.

I was having difficulties getting a full P&L with profit numbers into a PowerBI visual. This helps a lot - thank you.

This has been a life-saver for me, as well.

I ended up in a situation like the one Matt describes when he says, 'The chart of accounts needs to be changed/updated if there aren't sequential account numbers'  Unfortunately, getting a 80+ year old company to address their chart of accounts wasn't going to be an easy sell.

So, what I ended up doing was using the native grouping functionality in Power BI to get non-sequential account numbers into the 'header/sub-header' group to which they belong.  I called that 'Account No. (groups)' and then created a group of groups called 'Account (groups)'.  I then created my Header_Master.xlsx spreadsheet, which allowed me to get the sort and signs of each account group the way I needed them.

I don't think I ever would have come up with this solution on my own, though.  Thanks for this!
