    Hi Newbie here

    So if I create a  .com account, and I publish reports there related to my business so others in my organization can see them..

    two questions
    1. how safe is this data from others hacking into it?
    2. how do I share my reports with others from my .com?

    Thanks in advance for your time

    That depends on the skill of the hacker and the strength of your password.
    The system itself is pretty secure with all the modern security amenities, but you have to remember that hackers do not typically hack computers. They hack people.
    People are the weakest link.

    How to share is actually a pretty big topic.
    You can imbed into your application or Sharepoint, you can publish to the web (not secure), you can publish to Power BI Service, you can publish to an on-Premises report portal, you can share PBIX files, etc.

    The most common way is to publish to Power BI Service workspaces/apps.
    Your internal users will need an email address from your domain, and a Power BI Pro license.

    Hi Dean !

    Your question has many parts, Let's try to get answer to those;

    So if I create a  .com account -> Are you referring to a Domain / URL, if you are running a business & need to host your content you can buy a domain, you can do this through any domain registrar

    So if I create a  .com account -> If you mean domain account by this, yes you need to have valid email addresses which will be created in your domain

    how do I share my reports with others from my .com? -> You can create as may reports as you want but as soon as you decided to share reports within your organization / outside you need to look into the licensing model of Power BI

    So there are 2 pricing Models;

    Power BI (Pro)  & Power BI (Premium)

    No.of Users who will be involved in viewing / editing reports will have a key factor in deciding which license to purchase, in most cases with Small / Medium size organization they opt. for Power BI (Pro) License which is $10 per user, starting price for Power BI (Premium) is $5,000 which is suitable for larger enterprises

    https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/#powerbi-comparison-table

    So now you have license, you can use different sharing methods available through your licensing;

    Hi @Dean Rochester,

    Just to add to what other have said, Publish to Web is not all that safe, but still can be done.

    Since it is not really secure, anyone with the link can access the report.
    Apart from that, if you use the Publish to web option, the warnings say that MS and its partners might use the data for their own purpose, since technically you are making the report public.

    If you don't have a problem with that and want to use the Publish to Web option, then you can try the URL shortening services like bit.ly etc. and place a password on that short URL, which redirects to the Publish to Web URL.
    This way you do not have to share the PBI url with anyone and you can keep on changing the Publish to Web URL by deleting it from the service and publishing it again. It generates a new URL every time.

    So it's a workaround, if you want to use the Publish to Web option but keep it a bit secured.

    Thank you,

    HI @Dean Rochester,

    Please don't get confused with the information provided here.

    Publishing reports and data to your PowerBI account is secure, you can read the Power BI security whitepaper here.
    Once you've published a report to your Power BI workspace you can share that report with other Power BI users if you want and that is secure.
    However, if you use "Publish to web" that publishes your report to a publicly facing web site (app.powerbi.com). The URL is long and involved, but that does not provide any security. Both Google and Bing search the site your report is published to (app.powerbi.com). So anyone can search for and maybe find your report. For example put the following string into Google search "site:app.powerbi.com confidential" this searches ALL the "publish to web" reports for the word "confidential" you can then click on any of the links returned and view the report they published.
    These is no way to secure "Publish to web" it makes reports truly public (A fact some responders to this post need to be aware of).

    To reassure you, PowerBI.Com is fully secure and compliant, you can share reports with others in your account securely. But if you elect to take a report and publish it to the web, that is not secure and makes the report truly public.

    I hope this helps.
    Stuart

    Hi @Dean Rochester and @Stuart Box,

    I completely agree that Publish to Web is not secure and my response was a workaround if at all Publish to Web was chosen as an option.

    Also, as I said above that MS and its partners can use the raw data if the report is published to web, let alone whosoever accesses the report from whatever source, Google or Bing.

    So if there is the even a sliver of confidentiality issue, do not use the Publish to web option.

    Thank you,
