We've just finished a difficult yet fulfilling 12th round for the Power BI Challenge, which was based on a transport and shipping dataset. This was probably one of the most difficult challenges we've had to date, and we're very impressed with the participants' in-depth analysis on their entries.

    Challenge #13

Now that we're moving onto the next round, we'll focus on something that is often overlooked in the creation of a Power BI report – the documentation process.

More often than not, documentation is an afterthought rather than a task that needs to be done. However, documentation is important in order to make the report sustainable and maintainable not only for you, but for other users in the long run.

So how can we consistently provide great documentation without the need for loads of additional work? That's easy - let's get Power BI to do the work for us!

This week's challenge is all about creating a report which documents another report. You'll get to use and play around with an external tool called Document Model to make the task easier, but it won't be a requirement for this challenge.

    The Power BI Challenge

For this challenge, all of us will be using this simple financial report template to achieve consistency.

Remember that the key ask for this challenge is to provide a report which effectively documents the above report so that anyone can view it and have a good understanding of what the report comprises without the need to go to the specific report.

Just like always, the entries will be judged based on the four pillars of a great Power BI report:

    • Data loading and transformation
    • Data modeling
    • DAX calculations
    • Reports and visualizations

The winning entry gets a cash prize, as well as complimentary membership to Enterprise DNA. The exceptional entries also get featured on Power BI Challenge Showcase, which allows members to practice their Power BI skillsets and get some hands-on experience using actual reports and dashboards from different industries.

Deadline for submission is on Sunday, 18th May 2021 (PST).
