Hi Katie - there has NOT been any Austin activity for a while though I would love to experiment with interest.

I have been participating down in San Antonio:

    Hi,

I am definitely interested in the Austin Power BI User Group. I went to the last meeting which was hosted by a company from Houston. I think they lost interest even though about 15 to 20 people showed up. It is probably important that the group be setup by someone in Austin. We should also reach out to Microsoft to see if we could host meetings there or if they would be willing to sponsor.

    Thanks

    Hi All,

I'm definitely interested in an Austin PUG.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.  I think it's a good idea to see if it could be hosted at the Microsoft Corporate office in Austin.  I would be happy to call their office and see if its something that they would be willing to host.

    Would that help?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I think it's worth investigating what needs to happen in order to meet - go for it!

We probably need a corporate sponsor for the PUG of some sort (not one from Houston).  I may be interested depending on the bandwidth needed.

Okay well I have some good news.  I called the Microsoft Store in he Domain in Austin and spoke to the store manager about the possibility of hosting meetups for us.  He said that we could have the meetups in the training facility at the back up the store which seats 15 - 20 people.  They do this for some other groups already and would be happy to help us out.

The store is open until 9 P.M. each day so we have some flexibility to meet after work if that is best for everyone's schedule.  This facility is booked up for the month of May but we could get started in June and see about reserving it on a monthly basis for a monthly meetup.

So the next question is when would we like to get started and who is interested in attending the meetups?  We can also have a quick phone or skype call to discuss the logistics if that is better.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Hi, My colleague and I have a contact with Microsoft in Austin and will setup a meeting with them early next week to discuss what needs to be done to get a meeting room at the Microsoft Office.

I think we need a core group of 3-5 Austin people to work on getting this user group restarted and be able to maintain it.

Sean, Mike, I assume you would be interested. Is that correct? Anyone else?

    Well I replied too soon.

    Mike that is great news.

Sean and Mike, as mentioned in my previous post, I think we need a core group of people to get the user group restarted. I am willing to help and I assume each of you would also like to be in the core group.

Is there anyone else who would like to be included in the core group to work on the logistics of the meetings?

Hi Matthew.  Yes please count me in to be part of the core group.

Just so you know I did ask about hosting meetings at the Microsoft Corporate Office but the hours were not as flexible and we would need a Microsoft employee to be our escort while we were there.  So it seemed like the store might work best for us especially if we meet in the evenings.

Looking forward to being part of the group and improving Power BI skills in the process.  I think it would also be a good opportunity to discuss the Power Platform which is comprised of Power BI, Flow, and PowerApps as well.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Thanks for the responses from everyone.  Looks like we have 5 people so far: Katie, Victoria, Sean, Matthew, and myself.

Do we want to try and pick day/time in June for our first meeting? After we lock down the date and time I can ensure the space gets reserved for us at the Microsoft store.  I'm open during the week of June 17 and week of June 24 for first meeting.  I'm flexible on the days and times, evenings after work are best for me but I will go with the majority on the meeting day/time.

I can setup an event for us using the Meetup site after we decide.  This an example of what I see for Power BI Meetups in other locations: https://www.meetup.com/Hartford-Power-BI-User-Group/

I can do the week of the 17th  or the 27th or 28th.  In the summer time, I don't have any conflicts on meeting in the evenings.

Also, if we grow past 10 to 12, then we need a bigger space to meet than the Microsoft Store. I have been in that space and it works for small groups but not much bigger than that.

I do have a contact at Microsoft office that I am trying to meet with next week to see if he could help us get scheduled at the Microsoft Office if needed in the future.

    Thanks

    Matt

    Sounds good Matthew.

Based on the feedback received so far regarding dates and times I think 6/20 or 6/21 could work for our first meeting.  Would either of those dates work for everyone and does 6:00 PM work or would you prefer a different time?

Just let me know and I'll work on getting at least our initial meeting reserved at the Microsoft store and then we can switch to the Microsoft corporate office location if needed.

    Thanks,
    Mike

I'll reply back once I get confirmation.

    Good evening Austin!

HOWDY! Is anyone here interested in being included on the upcoming PUG Leadership meeting on 6/3 from 8:30 - 9:00 AM?

This is a recurring meeting to discuss what we have been doing, what is working and what is not. Current teams are represented among the Texas and Oklahoma Power BI groups, including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Oklahoma.

Wow, this happened quickly, after all this time.

Just yesterday I went to Houston for their Power BI UG. One of the first items on the agenda (totally unrelated to my presence and request) was the resurrection of the Austin group. At least one of the people from IronEdge who presented at that meeting a year (or more?) ago was present.

There is a Hackathon coming up, but it seems like it's coming together very quickly - too soon for using the June 20 meeting to organize.

If someone wants to reach out to Glen Accardo, the leader of the Houston UG, it would be useful to get what information he has, and what contacts he has for coordinating with the other Texas groups to determine the state-level -thon.

I am absolutely interested in participating in a UG. Unfortunately, June 20 is in the middle of a period in which I am taking some vacation days (not sure which days exactly). I'll try to schedule things so that June 20 is a work day and I am free to attend the meeting. :)

    Looking forward to this!

    Hello all

I'm part of the core team of Power BI Panama UG and was relocated to  Austin, and willing to participate in all Austin UG events.

Will be happy to attend to the proposed meeting on 6/20

Do we have any proposed agenda? I am ready to share some demos, business cases and other initiatives that worked well in Panama with this UG

Count on me for anything that the UG may need

    Thank you

Thanks for volunteering to help out and for bringing your experience with you from the Panama UG.  I'm sure we will benefit from it.

We don't have a set agenda just yet.  We'll be working on that over the next couple of weeks and share prior to the 6/20 meeting.

I am very interested in any Austin meetings. I am especially interested in ones where educational presentations are given. We are new to PowerBI and I need to learn all that I can as quickly as I can. I am not particularly interested in being part of the "core" group.

Hi Everyone.  We are a go for our first Power BI Meetup at the Microsoft Store at the Domain.  I received confirmation from them and they will reserve the training area for us on the date and time we selected which is June 20th at 6 PM.

Here is the address to the Microsoft Store:
    3309 Esperanza Crossing, Suite 104
    Austin, TX 78758-7762
    Find us
in The Domain next to Macy's and across from H&M

I will send out a Meetup invitation to the meeting and include everyone that's expressed interest just to confirm attendance and get the event on your calendars.

    Thanks,

    Hi Judy,

Thanks for reaching out.  I think the meeting time will depend on schedules.  The 6/20 meeting seemed to work best for most to meet at 6PM.  We can discuss different times to see if something like lunch and learns work better for some of the meetings.

We may need to experiment a little to see what works best since this is a new group.

Look forward to meeting you at one of the sessions.

Hi Everyone.  I thought I would provide an update about our upcoming Austin Power BI User Group Meeting on 6/20.  I have created a Meetup Site that we can use for communications and meeting announcements.  You can find the link below.  Please use it to confirm your attendance so we can get an idea of the number of people that plan to attend.

Please Note:  The location of the meeting has changed.  Microsoft has offered to let us hold our meetings at their corporate office in Austin so we will be meeting there instead of the Microsoft Store.  You can find the address in the Meetup Link and I'm listing here as well.
