There were 29 people attending the first meeting of the Green Bay "Titletown, USA" Power BI User Group. Here's a shot of the room during introductions:

The meeting was held in the beautiful Wipfli office. Great sound, easy computer connections, dual huge monitors. Excellent all around.

The main presentation was given by @Jared Papador of Wipfli's Milwaukee office. He gave a talk on understanding data and data literacy:

We also watched the first 15 minutes of the Power BI Desktop June 2019 Feature Summary video on YouTube. The video is narrated by @Amanda Cofsky, one of the Power BI Program Managers. Here's a picture of Amanda presenting in-person at last month's Milwaukee "The Brew City" PUG meeting:

So, we didn't have the luxury of seeing Amanda present in-person, but the video went online only a week ago; so it's still fresh!

@Gregg Froelich, the Chairman of the Titletown PUG, explained the differences between the DAX functions SUM() and SUMX(). He also demonstrated a custom visualization: the Drill-down Donut Chart by ZoomCharts. Gregg said that this one fancy-schmancy pie chart got Power BI's foot in the door where he works:

Who'd a thunk that the humble pie chart would get a new lease on life, eh?

@Steve Erbach demonstrated a PBIX file that he'd downloaded from Gil Raviv's DataChant web site: the Custom Visuals Exploration Tool

This tool isn't free ($25) but it provides lots of info about every custom visualization on the Microsoft AppSource site; including links for the custom viz web page, the custom viz download, and for some of the visualizations, a link to a tutorial video. Filter, sort... it's all there...and you can refresh the list to get all the latest visualizations. Very handy.

@Paul Vandyck canvassed the group for opinions on what time of day and how frequently to hold meetings, and whether anyone might consider hosting a meeting or presenting a topic. Paul is a member of Toast Masters and he does this very well. He and @Nicole Cyphers (another member of our group's leadership team) run the Fox Valley Business Intelligence and Analytics Meetup group that meets monthly.

We haven't set the date or location for our next PUG meeting... but we've tentatively chosen either the last week in August or the first week in September. Watch this space!

Thank you to everyone who attended, and thank you to Jared Papador for his presentation... and we'd especially like to thank @John Kirsch of Wipfli for hosting the meeting at such a fine site.

    Sincerely,
