Hi James,
Thanks for the article you shared, much appreciated.
As opposed to the situation described in the article, I only have 1 Power BI version installed.
I can validate this by going to my computer's Control Panel > Programs and Features: I only see "Microsoft PowerBI Desktop (x64)"
Also, in my computer's start menu, under the "P" section, I only see "Power BI Desktop", nothing else with the word "Power BI"
Since December 2022 update, When I try to open a .pbix file by double clicking on it, even a newly created blank file:
1) Power BI seems to revert back to "December 2021" (as seen in File > About)
and
2) When I refresh I get the same error messages described in the article you shared
The workaround I found is to:
- Open Power BI Desktop by clicking on the Power BI icon. It will open a blank file
- The version will indeed be December 2022 (File > About)
- Then: I make sure to open the desired pbix through the menu File > Open Report > Browse Reports (and not by double-clicking on the file)
- Refresh
At least it is a non blocking issue since I am able to open and work with .pbix files. Kind of hoping that issue will magically disappear in the next release.
Meanwhile, any clue what causes this ? If not, how to report this issue ?
Thanks again !

Hi all,
Does someone have an issue opening a .pbix file since December 2022 update ?
Here is the case:
I use a .pbix file on a monthly basis. Everything worked well until November 2022 inclusively.
Since December 2022 update, the following error message displays at opening (see image below).

As a troubleshooting step:
- I deleted all report tabs from the pbix, while leaving only 1 blank tab (strict minimum)
- I saved the pbix giving it another name
But same problem at file opening. Which makes me think it might not be related to Reports, as the error message suggest, but maybe to something in the background.
Furthermore, that specific .pbix file shows "December 2021" (and not "December 2022") when I go into: File > About
Which is strange because I have "December 2022" version.
As proof, when I create a new .pbix file, it shows "December 2022" when I go into: File > About
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
