January Power BI User Group Meeting

When:  Jan 17, 2019 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM (CT)

The Greater Houston Power BI User Group's meetings are a place to chat with other Power BI users from beginners to experts. You'll have the opportunity to attend interactive sessions that cover a range of topics that can help get you started, or take your already-created Power BI assets to the next level. Participation is strongly encouraged and we would welcome your ideas for presentations and additional content.

  • I Can't Believe It's Not SQL! (Introduction to Power Query M)

      • What is the advanced editor?
      • What is Power Query M?
      • Common Statements in Power Query.
      • Writing Power Query with the assistance of the GUI.
      • Using Power Query to avoid redundant work.
      • Cleaning up your Power Query steps by combining similar statements.

  • Connecting to an On Premises Database 
    • Presenter: Mairin Griffith
    • Topics: 
      • Reading data from SQL Server
      • Setting up the on-premises data gateway

Meeting Format:
  • Networking/Welcome/Introduction:
    • Time to chat and get to know everyone
    • User Group news and introductions
  • Presentations:
    • Depending on content and duration, the presentations may be in one room or split into two different sessions.  In either case, presentations are interactive and audience participation is highly encouraged.
  • Show and Tell:
    • Open floor to show off what you did, get feedback on your approach, and general collaboration

  • Your laptop, and any Power BI projects you're working on.
How to Find Us:
10th floor of the office building; rooms will be confirmed closer to the event date. You can also ask the front desk about the Power BI User Group. We will organize the beginner/advanced sessions by room according to interest.
