Hi guys,
I have some invention for you. But few words on how I came to it.
There is a tool called
Vertipaq Analyzer. It is an Excel file with PowerPivot model inside.
It is useful to analyze VertiPaq storage structures for a data model in Analysis Services Tabular and Power BI. In other words, for optimization and data profiling of Power BI reports/SSAS models. Creators are SQL BI Team and here is a link to the initial tool - VertiPaq Analyzer - SQLBI. And tutotial on how to use it - Data Model Size with Vertipaq Analyzer. Who likes learn from videos, here you are :) - VertiPaq Analyzer 1.7.
General recommendation would be to use such tool anytime when your Power BI reports are connected to the sources using Import mode.
It requires PowerPivot add-in, so that means you need Excel version 2010 and higher. And that caused an issue on the DAX training I gave few months ago. Some of students didn't have proper version of Excel. Starting that moment I started thinking to migrate this tool from Excel to Power BI.
And it is done :) It was really cool exercise, you need to know applications differences, settings, DAX and M languages, good with relationships. Sometimes I did things fast and forgot some simple actions to set, hopefully I know how to debug it, that saved me.
Here is a
link at this portal to the Power BI version of Vertipaq Analyzer 1.92-1.6.
I'm happy to see comments (good and even bad ones) on this result.
